VCF format files are most often used to store and distribute specific contact data. Files with the VCF extension contain data such as addresses, telephone numbers or other personal data.

The main use of files with the VCF extension is to import and export contacts from programs storing address books. A VCF file can be attached to an email.

Files containing the VCF extension can be generated by email applications such as Microsoft Outlook. VCF is short for Virtual Contact File. The VCF format is used on various operating systems, ranging from Windows, Macintosh and even the iOS mobile system.
